BSF Enhances Vigilance on Borders: Unyielding Protection for National Security
Shillong, Jan 4: The Border Security Force (BSF) is on high alert due to the volatile political climate in Bangladesh and increased activities from Pakistani, Chinese, and US agencies. Despite the tensions, the border remains calm, according to a senior BSF official. There are reports of Pakistani ISI operatives holding discussions with Bangladeshi officials, and Chinese and US agents influencing Bangladesh’s affairs. The BSF, while maintaining friendly ties with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), is closely monitoring the situation.
One primary concern is the insurgent groups from India’s northeastern states, which have established camps in Bangladesh. Previously inactive, these camps are now under scrutiny, especially with fears of ISI involvement in training militants, including those from the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council, which has bases in Bangladesh. However, the BSF official noted that there is limited concrete information, and the situation remains unclear.
The intelligence community is aware of the ISI’s operations but continues to assess the extent of potential cooperation with other agencies. There is minimal information on Chinese and US activities, adding to the uncertainty. Consequently, BSF-BGB meetings at the Director General level have been postponed for over two months, alongside other bilateral engagements.
The next Inspector General-level meeting is planned to be held in Bangladesh, pending a comprehensive security evaluation. The BSF is exercising extreme caution under these uncertain circumstances, ensuring all necessary precautions are in place before progressing with diplomatic engagements.
