Empowering Unity: Sikkim Governor’s Heartfelt Engagement with Army Heroes at Doklam
Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur engaged with Army personnel stationed at Doklam, a strategic location at 15,600 feet elevation, where a significant standoff between Indian and Chinese forces occurred in 2017. The visit on Friday was officially reported by the Raj Bhavan, with Mathur accompanied by Rajasthan’s Forest and Environment Minister, Sanjay Sharma.
Mathur’s visit commenced with a warm welcome at 8th Mile JN Road, where locals, Kyongnosla Gram Panchayat members, and officials from the Forest Department and Sikkim Police greeted him. Demonstrating his commitment to environmental conservation, Mathur planted an oak tree and conversed with the gram panchayat members and locals about development and ecological issues.
Upon reaching Doklam, Major General MS Rathore, the General Officer Commanding of the 17th Mountain Division, received the governor. During his interaction with the soldiers, Mathur expressed heartfelt gratitude for their dedication to national security. He praised their bravery, courage, and steadfast commitment, recognizing the vital role they play in safeguarding India’s security and honor.
Concluding his visit, the governor traveled to Kupup, home to the world’s highest golf course, and made a stop at Dichu village on his return journey to Gangtok, the state capital. In Dichu, he had an engaging interaction with villagers, listening to their concerns and assuring them of necessary assistance through the Raj Bhavan.
Mathur’s visit not only highlighted the strategic importance of Doklam and the region but also underscored his dedication to environmental conservation and community engagement. The governor’s appreciation for the military’s service and his commitment to addressing local issues reflect a balanced approach to governance and regional stability.
