Heartfelt Tribute: Amitabh Bachchan Unites India in Mourning the Loss of Four Legendary Icons
Mumbai, January 3: Legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan recently took to social media to pay homage to iconic figures India lost in 2024. His heartfelt remembrance was sparked by the passing of renowned individuals who made indelible marks in their fields: business mogul Ratan Tata, tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, and eminent filmmaker Shyam Benegal.
Bachchan shared a poignant cartoon by artist Satish Acharya on his Instagram, commemorating these national treasures. The artwork, illustrating the four distinguished personalities in their element in heaven, beautifully depicted Zakir Hussain playing the tabla, Shyam Benegal with a camera, Ratan Tata feeding dogs, and Dr. Singh diligently working for the nation. Bachchan’s caption succinctly captured the essence of their enduring legacy: “The picture says it all.”
In his moving tribute, Bachchan’s post also touched on the unity in diversity these figures represented: “A Parsi, a Muslim, a Sikh, and a Hindu passed away in 2024, and the entire nation mourned them, remembering them only as Indians.”
The year saw the confluence of these profound losses, each marked by their personal battles with health issues. Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh left us on December 26, at the age of 92, after succumbing to age-related illnesses. He passed away in Delhi, merely hours after being admitted to AIIMS as his health worsened. Filmmaker Shyam Benegal departed on December 23 at age 90, following complications from chronic kidney disease. Earlier, on October 10, India bid farewell to Ratan Tata, the towering industrialist and ex-chairman of the Tata Group, at 86. The music world was stunned by the passing of Zakir Hussain, the extraordinary tabla virtuoso, at age 73.
On the professional front, Amitabh Bachchan’s latest venture was “Vettaiyan,” alongside Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati. He is set to captivate audiences next in Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film, “The Intern.”
