Historic Tribute: Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge Renamed Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu by Himanta Biswa Sarma – A Legacy of Unity and Honor

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared that the forthcoming bridge linking Guwahati and North Guwahati will be named the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu. This decision is a tribute to the renowned Kamrupa King, Kumar Bhaskar Varma, who reigned in the 7th century and significantly contributed to the region’s prosperity and cultural prominence. The bridge’s naming aligns with Assam’s initiative to celebrate its historical and cultural heritage.

King Kumar Bhaskar Varma is celebrated for enhancing Kamrupa’s political and cultural landscape, making the bridge’s naming a rightful homage to his enduring legacy.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Sarma has provided updates on the bridge’s construction, affirming that it is on course to be completed by July 2025. Set to be toll-free for all vehicles except trucks and commercial buses, the bridge aims to alleviate traffic congestion significantly and improve connectivity between Guwahati and North Guwahati. This development is expected to be a major boost to Assam’s infrastructure, enhancing not only transportation efficiency but also supporting the state’s broader development objectives.

During a recent inspection of the construction site on the South Bank, Dr. Sarma expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating, “Work on the upcoming Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is progressing well, and we plan to dedicate it to the people after July 2025.”
