Ahmedabad witnessed an inspiring address from Ajay Patel, Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association, at the Kreeda Bharati convention on Sunday. Patel urged young sports enthusiasts to broaden their athletic pursuits beyond cricket. "Every child should immerse themselves in at least two sports from a young age," Patel advised. Emphasizing the role of coaches rather than parents in guiding future sports specialization, he noted a growing trend towards cricket, which often eclipses other sports. Highlighting the scene at Gujarat University’s grounds where over 200 cricket teams play on Sundays, he called for varied participation to promote other sports equally.
High-Profile Visit to Lothal’s Ancient Site
In another development, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, alongside Union Minister of Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, visited the historic Harappan site of Lothal on Saturday. This marked the first significant visit following the tragic death of IIT Delhi PhD scholar, Surabhi Verma. Despite the gravity of this incident, no public statements were made regarding it. Instead, T K Ramachandran, MoPSW secretary, provided updates to the media about their visit to the National Maritime Heritage Complex.
