Discover the Astonishing World’s Largest Coach Factory: Over [Number] Coaches Built Annually!
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, India, stands as the world’s largest and most prominent train coach manufacturer. Founded in 1955 in Perambur, Chennai, ICF is among the country’s five oldest manufacturing units. A significant contributor to Indian Railways, often referred to as the ‘Lifeline of India,’ this factory produces the majority of the coaches used across the expansive rail network. The Indian rail system, ranked as the fourth largest globally, spans over 67,000 kilometers and facilitates the movement of millions daily, with more than 23,000 trains covering 7,000 stations nationwide.
ICF specializes in producing LHB coaches, semi-high speed Vande Bharat train sets, and electrical multiple units. Previously, the facility focused solely on manufacturing ICF coaches. Each year, ICF manufactures over 4,000 coaches, continually enhancing the Indian railway’s capacity and efficiency. By June 2024, it is anticipated that more than 75,000 coaches will have rolled off the production line, including the more time-intensive Vande Bharat coaches.
This impressive output underscores the critical role ICF plays in supporting the vast and dynamic Indian railway network, ensuring the continued delivery of reliable passenger and freight services across the country.
