Assam Police Unleashes Major Victory with Heart-Stopping Rs 3.5 Crore Heroin Seizure
On December 27, Assam police executed a significant operation, arresting an individual and intercepting a vehicle, resulting in the seizure of 532.46 grams of heroin. The drugs, cunningly hidden in secret compartments within the vehicle, carry a market value estimated at Rs 3.5 crore. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly praised the police’s efforts, highlighting the operation’s success in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). He stated, “Based on input from an apprehended individual, @nagaonpolice intercepted a vehicle and recovered 532.46 grams of heroin upon thorough search. The seized drugs is worth Rs 3.5 crore and was hidden in secret chambers of the vehicle. Good job @assampolice #AssamAgainstDrugs.”
Earlier, on December 21, Assam’s Special Task Force (STF), in collaboration with Cachar district police, conducted a late-night raid in Silchar, leading to the confiscation of 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin. This operation was spearheaded by STF Chief Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta and took place on Silcoori Road. The individual arrested, Sahil Ahmed Laskar, a resident of Sonai in Cachar, was allegedly transporting the narcotics by motorcycle. “We apprehended Sahil Ahmed Laskar from Sonai of Cachar district while he was transporting narcotics. We recovered and seized 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin from his possession,” Dr. Mahanta reported. He estimated the market value of these seized drugs to be around Rs 20 crore.
These successful operations underscore Assam’s ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking, dismantling narcotics networks, and ensuring the safety and security of its communities.
