Exciting Boost for Education: Telangana’s Budget Soars by 11.5%, Empowering Future Generations
Telangana Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka reaffirmed the government’s dedication to elevating educational standards and enhancing facilities in schools and colleges during the Budget presentation for the fiscal year 2024-25 on July 25. This commitment is reflected in the 11.5% boost in the education Budget, which now stands at ₹21,292 crore, up from ₹19,093 crore in the previous year.
Central to this initiative is a significant recruitment drive by the District Selection Committee (DSC) to fill 11,062 vacant teacher positions, aimed at aligning the teacher-student ratio and ensuring quality education for students in government schools. Highlighting past governance issues, the Minister criticized the previous administration for undermining university autonomy by appointing interim in-charges instead of full-time Vice-Chancellors, leading to administrative chaos.
The current Congress government plans to rectify this by establishing search committees to appoint full-time Vice-Chancellors across all universities, with a notable allocation of ₹500 crores for university infrastructure development. This includes ₹100 crores each for Osmania University and Women’s University, with the remaining funds for Kakatiya University and other institutions.
The Budget also aims to transform Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into centres of excellence through a partnership with Tata Technologies Limited. This collaboration will modernize 65 government ITIs, introducing six new long-term courses and training 5,860 students annually in addition to 31,200 students in short-term courses. Modern technological equipment and expert trainers will be provided, and Tata Technologies Limited will also support job placements for trainees. The project, inaugurated by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has a total cost of ₹2,324.2 crores, with ₹307.95 crores funded by the government and the rest by Tata Technologies through its CSR program. The Budget proposes ₹300 crores for this initiative.
This substantial investment in education infrastructure aims to provide better learning environments and opportunities, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to educational excellence.
