Shocking Cyberattack Paralyzes Japan Airlines: Massive Flight Delays and Ticket Chaos Ensue
On December 26, Japan Airlines (JAL) faced a cyberattack that significantly disrupted its flight operations. The attack caused delays of up to one hour for 14 domestic flights and affected some international flights. The problems began around 7:25 AM, leading JAL to halt ticket sales for both domestic and international flights for the entire day, though existing reservations were honored.
JAL announced it was working diligently to mitigate the cyberattack and trace its origin, indicating that its impact could be considerable. The airline managed to temporarily disable the compromised router believed to be the source of the disruption. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident.
In a public statement on X (formerly Twitter), JAL assured, “We identified and addressed the cause of the issue. We are checking the system recovery status. Sales for both domestic and international flights departing today have been suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
The airline’s rapid response and ongoing investigation underscore the seriousness of the situation while attempting to reassure passengers.
