Revolutionizing Justice: Amit Shah’s Bold Push for Technology in New Criminal Laws

New Delhi, Dec 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored the significant role of technology in crime management during a review meeting regarding the implementation of three new criminal laws with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). He advocated for a comprehensive alert generation system from case registration to resolution to expedite investigations.

At the meeting, Shah emphasized the need for biometric technology to identify unclaimed bodies, marking a step forward in forensic advancements. He called for consistent interaction with senior police officials across States and Union Territories to monitor the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), aiming to invigorate these projects.

Amit Shah urged the NCRB to establish a robust data platform to aid Investigation Officers and other Criminal Justice System stakeholders. He commended the NCRB for their efforts in implementing new criminal laws and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).

The review spanned the integration of crucial systems such as CCTNS 2.0, NAFIS, and databases of prisons, courts, prosecutions, and forensics with ICJS 2.0 nationally. The meeting saw attendance from Union Home Secretary, Director of NCRB, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, NCRB, and NIC.

During the discussions, he urged the NCRB to ensure the complete adoption of new criminal laws within ICJS 2.0. He also highlighted the importance of digital applications like eSakshya, Nyaya Shruti, eSign, and eSummons for every state and union territory to streamline processes. The creation of alert systems from case registration to resolution is crucial, he proposed, to enhance the efficiency of investigations.

To further encourage the adoption of technological advancements at state and union territory levels, Shah emphasized the importance of sending teams from the Ministry of Home Affairs and NCRB to assist and facilitate implementation.
