Assam Govt Takes Bold Stand: Cracking Down on Orunodoi Scheme Misuse by Employees
Dibrugarh: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared that stringent measures will be taken against state employees who have unlawfully benefited from the Orunodoi scheme. In a press briefing in Dibrugarh, Sarma revealed that 684 government employees identified under Orunodoi 2.0 project have been illicitly accessing these benefits, and actions are forthcoming.
Additionally, Sarma announced the creation of an Assam International Skill Centre to provide local training opportunities to the state’s youth. The main center will be established in Guwahati, with smaller centers in other districts, aiming to reduce the need for youth to seek skill development training outside the state.
In another development, Sarma stated that starting January 2025, Gaon Burahs (village chiefs) of forest villages will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 9000. This decision was made in recognition of their unpaid contribution to society.
Furthermore, the year 2025 will be commemorated as “Book Year,” featuring a Guwahati Book Fair in Khanapara. Sarma emphasized the importance of the event by mandating that every minister participates and purchase books, underscoring the government’s dedication to promoting literacy and a culture of reading in Assam.
