On December 22, a group of 15-20 armed individuals masquerading as CBI officials executed a brazen robbery at the residence of Abul Hussain, a prominent businessman in Cachar. The assailants gained access to the home by pretending to be on official duty. Once inside, they drew firearms, intimidating the household members and binding them before proceeding to plunder the premises.
The robbers absconded with cash amounting to Rs 35 lakh and jewelry valued at over Rs 10 lakh. In their attempt to escape, they temporarily commandeered Hussain’s Scorpio vehicle, driving it about 500 meters before abandoning it, along with the keys, on the road. The culprits subsequently fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind.
