Shocking Bust: Rs 20 Crore Yaba Tabs & Heroin Seized in Cachar, 1 Arrested – Major Drug Crackdown in Guwahati
In a pivotal operation conducted late Saturday night, the Cachar police successfully intercepted a large consignment of narcotics along the Sildubi-Silcoorie road, underscoring the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region. Acting on precise intelligence inputs regarding the movement of illegal substances beyond Assam, officers apprehended Sahil Ahmed Laskar, a suspected drug peddler from Nasirgram in Sonai Circle. The operation was spearheaded by a police team led by Inspector General of Police (Special Task Force), Partha Sarathi Mahanta, with operations commencing around 1 a.m.
During the thorough search, authorities recovered a staggering cache of 60,000 Yaba tablets and 10 soap cases filled with suspected heroin. The total weight of the seized heroin reached 6.848 kg. This illicit haul is estimated to hold a black market value close to Rs 20 crore, marking it as a significant achievement in the fight against narcotics distribution.
Sahil Ahmed Laskar’s transportation means, a motorcycle, was also confiscated during the operation. The entire seizure was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, ensuring transparency and integrity in the process. Superintendent of Police (Cachar), Numal Mahatta, confirmed that further legal proceedings are underway to address this substantial breach of the law.
