Urgent Plea: Dhubri Congress Submits Powerful Memorandum to Governor to Tackle Pressing Issues

The Dhubri District Congress Committee, in collaboration with local citizens, has submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, seeking his intervention on three urgent issues affecting Assam and beyond. The memorandum, delivered via district administration, focuses on alleged fraudulent activities by the Adani Group, the ongoing crisis in Manipur, and the controversial installation of smart meters in Assam.

The document raises alarm over charges brought by the U.S. Department of Justice against Gautam Adani and his associates, which include allegations of corruption, bribery, and market manipulation. According to the Congress, these charges have damaged India’s global business reputation. The memorandum criticizes the Indian government for evading parliamentary debates on the issue, indicating a lack of transparency and accountability.

Addressing the Manipur crisis, the memorandum highlights the dire conditions marked by prolonged violence and curfews, resulting in numerous casualties and widespread fear. The Congress accuses the BJP-led governments at both state and central levels of negligence, citing the prime minister’s absence and the state chief minister’s inaction as evidence of indifference toward Manipur’s citizens.

On the matter of smart meters in Assam, the Congress claims that the devices are financially burdensome for ordinary citizens. It notes that other states like Bihar and Tamil Nadu have opted against installing smart meters in rural areas. The Congress called for the Governor’s intervention to alleviate the financial strain on Assam’s residents.

The memorandum further condemns police actions during a peaceful protest organized by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on December 18, 2024. Allegations include excessive use of tear gas and police brutality, resulting in injuries to vulnerable individuals. The memorandum also demands justice for Advocate Mridul Islam, who allegedly died due to police misconduct during the protest, describing his death as a “homicidal” incident. The Dhubri District Congress Committee urges the Governor to act promptly to ensure justice and relief for affected citizens.
