Join the Transformative SSA Teachers’ Meet: Unveiling the Exciting Government Offer!
Shillong, Dec 15: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) is set to convene a general meeting at Students’ Field, Jaiaw this Monday to deliberate on the state government’s proposal for discussions regarding a job security policy for SSA teachers. According to MSSASA president Aristotle Rymbai, over 13,000 SSA teachers may benefit from the policy aimed at securing their employment.
Previously, the Meghalaya government accepted five out of eight recommendations made by the association. These include implementing a structured pay system and aligning SSA teachers’ salaries with the 2018 Meghalaya Service Revision of Pay Rules. One key proposal suggests exempting teachers who joined on or before July 29, 2011, from the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET), as well as those who commenced service before the MTET notification on August 23, 2010. Rymbai also emphasized the demand for a special package for SSA teachers close to retirement or those who are over-aged.
The government’s response has been positive, and Rymbai is optimistic that future discussions, slated to occur before Christmas, will lead to favorable outcomes for the teachers.
In a show of unity, the All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (AMSSASTA) previously staged a 21-day sit-in campaign starting October 1, which was suspended following governmental assurances to address their demands. Among their primary concerns were a 100% salary hike and the regularization of the 13,000 SSA teachers under the Education Department.
The upcoming meeting represents a critical opportunity for further advancing the rights and security of SSA teachers in Meghalaya as they await tangible governmental actions on their longstanding grievances.
