Nagaland’s Allocation under DoNER Schemes Revealed

Dimapur, December 15: Nagaland has been earmarked Rs 1,323.84 crore under the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) schemes for the fiscal years 2022-23 to 2025-26. This is part of a larger financial provision amounting to Rs 15,092.7 crore designated for the eight northeastern states. So far, 27 projects valued at Rs 563.87 crore have been approved for Nagaland.

This update was disclosed by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, in response to a query from Nagaland’s Member of Parliament, S. Phangnon Konyak, during a session in the Rajya Sabha. Dr. Majumdar explained the systematic process of project sanctioning, which begins with state governments submitting funding proposals adhering to the scheme’s guidelines.

These proposals undergo scrutiny by the State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC), led by the state’s Chief Secretary. The committee’s recommendations are then evaluated by the Empowered Inter-ministerial Committee (EIMC), chaired by the Secretary of DoNER, before being forwarded for approval by the Minister of Development of North Eastern Region.

Dr. Majumdar emphasized that Nagaland, alongside other northeastern states, has been advised to propose projects within their designated budgetary allocations to ensure optimal use of the funds. This structured approach aims to streamline the funding process, ensuring that the allocated resources effectively contribute to the development of the region.

This allocation showcases the central government’s continued commitment to boosting development in the northeast, and the efficient processing of these funds is crucial for fostering growth and infrastructural development in Nagaland.
