Shocking Arrest: Five Youths Apprehended in Heinous Santirbazar Gang-Rape Case
In a prompt response to a grievous crime, authorities at Shantir Bazar police station swiftly arrested five young men involved in the gang rape of a minor in Agartala. The shocking incident was uncovered when the victim’s family lodged a formal complaint on a Saturday. According to reports, one of the suspects allegedly abducted the minor from her residence and took her to a secluded rubber plantation in the Mahondaira area of Paikhola. There, the group allegedly subjected the minor to sexual assault throughout the night. The traumatized girl returned home the following morning and related her ordeal to her mother, who subsequently filed a complaint at Manpathar Phari police station.
Responding to the report, Officers-in-Charge Jayanta Das of Manpathar Phari and Ashutosh Sharma of Shantir Bazar police stations spearheaded an investigation, leading to the swift capture of the five assailants. The accused, identified as Shaktiyya Riang (18), Nivas Tripura (19), Subhash Riang (19), Lakshmidhan Tripura (18), and Jiban Tripura (21), were taken into police custody.
Following the legal processes on Sunday, the five suspects were presented before the Bilonia District and Sessions Court. The ongoing investigation has been assigned to OC Jayanta Das of the Manpathar Phari police station. OC Ashutosh Sharma addressed the media, emphasizing the swift actions taken to apprehend the accused and pledging the police’s commitment to securing justice for the victim.
The incident has incited public outrage, with demands for stringent actions against the perpetrators and improved measures for safeguarding minors.
