Amit Shah’s Bold Promise: Ending Naxalism in Chhattisgarh by March 2026
Raipur, Dec 15: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating Maoism in Chhattisgarh by March 31, 2026. During an event honoring the Chhattisgarh Police with the President’s Colour Award, Shah praised their efforts in reducing Left-wing extremism. He encouraged Maoists to integrate into mainstream society by taking advantage of the state’s surrender policy.
Shah acknowledged the Chhattisgarh Police as one of the country’s most valiant forces for their role in anti-naxal operations. Over the past year, their achievements include neutralizing 287 extremists, arresting nearly 1,000, and facilitating the surrender of 837 individuals. He noted the unprecedented reduction in fatalities among both security forces and civilians to below 100 in a year. Remarkably, the police eliminated 14 top naxals, marking significant progress in four decades.
The Union Minister lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting a 73% reduction in fatalities among security forces and a 70% decline in civilian deaths over the past decade compared to the previous one. He recalled the BJP’s long tenure in the state since its formation in 2000 under Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also congratulated the police on their achievements and reiterated the target to eliminate Maoism by 2026. He shed light on initiatives such as offering 15,000 houses to surrendered extremists under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Other government schemes include educational reservations, financial assistance, and agricultural land grants for their families.
The welfare of Maoist violence victims is prioritized with provisions such as reservations in technical colleges, skill development for women, and land for housing and agriculture. As the state police celebrate this prestigious award even before reaching 25 years of service, the recognition is expected to boost their morale and commitment to fostering peace and development in Chhattisgarh.
