Exciting News: Tripura Govt’s Bold Move to Ensure Visitor Safety with Tourist Police Unit – Discover Peace of Mind in Northeast
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the state government is considering the establishment of a Tourist Police unit to boost safety for visitors, as the region sees a rise in domestic and international tourism. This initiative aims to foster a secure and welcoming environment for tourists, aligning with Tripura’s goal to elevate its profile as an attractive travel destination.
Speaking at a meeting for tour and travel operators organized by the Department of Tourism and the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) in Agartala, CM Saha highlighted the crucial role these operators play in the tourism sector. He noted the sector’s potential for generating employment and attracting investment, underscoring the recent surge in visitor numbers. Saha attributed this growth partly to improvements under the Act East Policy, which has enhanced infrastructure such as national highways, railways, and airways.
Previously reliant on a single national highway, Tripura is seeing developments in its road network, boosting connectivity and accessibility for tourists. Saha expressed his desire for the rest of the country to recognize Tripura’s tourism potential amid these infrastructure advancements, which he believes will heighten awareness and interest in the state’s offerings.
Saha emphasized the importance of law and order in tourist decision-making, asserting that Tripura has made notable strides in fostering a peaceful environment. To further enhance tourist experiences, plans are underway to introduce Tourist Police. This specialized unit is expected to address any issues faced by visitors, ensuring a pleasant stay. Supported by funding from the Asian Development Bank, infrastructure projects are on the rise, including new accommodations like homestays in Dumboor.
Additionally, four islands in Dumboor are being developed to enrich the state’s array of tourist destinations, marking a new chapter in Tripura’s journey as an emerging, tourist-friendly state.
