Transformational Boost: NABARD’s Empowering Financial Support for Thriving Tribal Areas
The Indian government has announced significant progress in the development of tribal areas through NABARD’s Tribal Development Fund (TDF). Over the past 18 years, the fund has supported 1,029 projects aimed at providing sustainable livelihoods for tribal families. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, highlighted that since TDF’s inception in 2005-06, approximately 6.29 lakh tribal families have been beneficiaries. The program has also contributed to environmental sustainability, with around 2.9 crore trees planted across India under its initiatives.
In another update presented to the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman reported a remarkable rise in agricultural loans for small and marginal farmers. The minister revealed a steady increase in these loans, with the number of loan accounts reaching 13.06 crores in the 2023-24 financial year. This trend underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and enhancing the financial stability of farmers across the country.
These disclosures underscore the government’s dedication to fostering inclusive growth and environmental sustainability through targeted support in tribal development and agriculture.
