DRI’s Remarkable Bust: Seizes 123kg of Methamphetamine in Northeastern India – A Grave and Intensifying Threat
In New Delhi, the confiscation of methamphetamine, commonly referred to as ‘ice’ or ‘crystal meth,’ has surged in India’s northeastern states, particularly Assam and Mizoram, during the current year. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) reported the seizure of 123 kilograms of this illegal drug between April and September. Methamphetamine trafficking poses a significant challenge to Indian law enforcement, largely due to the porous northeastern borders that facilitate smuggling activities.
According to the DRI, current smuggling trends indicate that methamphetamine is illicitly entering India via maritime routes, specifically through the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
