Shocking Verdict: Man Receives Life Sentence in Udalguri for Heartbreaking Murder of Friend
In a significant legal development in Udalguri, Assam, the District and Sessions Judge, N Senabaya Deori, has sentenced Lurkho Munda to life imprisonment for the 2017 murder of his friend, Illiam Kujur. The court found Munda guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for fatally attacking Kujur with a wooden plank. Alongside the life sentence, Munda was also fined Rs 20,000.
The case unfolded after a relative of the deceased lodged an FIR at the Dimakuchi police station, which led to Munda’s arrest under the investigation of case number 94/2017. Following a thorough trial, the court upheld the charges of murder against Munda.
In addition to sentencing, the court ordered the District Legal Service Authority to provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the victim’s kin, aligning with Section 357 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Section 395 of the Victim Compensation Scheme.
This verdict highlights the judiciary’s commitment to addressing severe criminal offenses with strict penalties, reinforcing the legal framework in Assam.
