Urgent Outcry: Congress Leads Powerful Protest Against Union Govt Over Minority Plight in Bangladesh
Guwahati, Dec. 3: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) staged a protest rally against the BJP-led Union government, accusing it of failing to protect minorities in Bangladesh. Branding the situation as a “diplomatic failure,” the opposition targeted the Narendra Modi-led administration by gheraoing the District Commissioner’s office in Hengrabari on Tuesday. Demonstrators chanted slogans such as “BJP, Go Back!” and “Narendra Modi resign,” and burned effigies of Union Ministers, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, which were subsequently extinguished by the police.
Leader Mira Barthakur criticized Modi’s foreign policies, claiming they have led to increased atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. She alleged that the government’s primary concern is protecting business magnate Gautam Adani. Barthakur pointed out that Modi often accompanies Adani on foreign trips, allegedly prioritizing business interests over addressing the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh. She urged immediate diplomatic dialogue with Bangladesh to resolve the issues faced by minorities, advocating for a political solution to end these atrocities.
On a parallel note, Prime Minister Modi has reportedly raised the issue with U.S. President Joe Biden, expressing the need for swift restoration of normalcy in Bangladesh. Sources from the Prime Minister’s Office revealed that both leaders concur that the interim government in Bangladesh must ensure the safety and security of minorities, particularly Hindus. The situation underscores the necessity for diplomatic engagement to foster peace and safeguard the rights of affected communities in Bangladesh.
