Urgent Alert: Congress MP Bimol Akoijam Expresses Deep Concern Over Missing Soldier from Manipur’s Leimakhong Army Camp
Congress MP A Bimol Akoijam has voiced serious concerns regarding the mysterious disappearance of 56-year-old construction supervisor Laishram Kamalbabu Singh from Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. Singh, employed by Binod Construction, was last seen entering the high-security Leimakhong Military Garrison—home to the 57th Mountain Division, commonly referred to as the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army—on November 25. According to records, his entry was logged, but there is no record of him exiting the premises, leaving his current whereabouts unknown.
In a statement, Akoijam stressed the strangeness of the incident, highlighting that the disappearance from a tightly secured military installation is particularly alarming. He remarked, “It has been over a week, and there is still no information about what happened to him.” The situation raises serious security and procedural questions, increasing public concern.
Akoijam has pledged to raise this issue in Parliament to press for a comprehensive investigation. However, he expressed frustration over the lack of opportunity to address the matter in the legislative body thus far. Assuring the public of his commitment, he promised to bring up the case at the earliest possible moment, urging relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Singh’s disappearance.
As efforts continue to locate Singh, state Chief Minister N Biren Singh reports that helicopters have been deployed and security forces are conducting foot patrols to aid the search. The unusual nature of the disappearance emphasizes the need for clarity and action to ensure safety and accountability within military domains.
