State Government Promotions in Legal Department
In a major development, the Legal Department of the state government announced the promotion of three deputy secretaries to joint secretary positions on Saturday. V N Shaikh, H H Patel, and D M Bhabhor have been elevated, with Shaikh now serving as the joint secretary of the Liaison Office within the legal department. Meanwhile, Patel and Bhabhor have filled vacant joint secretary roles in the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs department. Notably, H H Patel maintains an additional role as Secretary of the Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB). According to departmental sources, these promotions may open doors for new leadership, with joint secretaries becoming eligible for secretary positions. Currently, the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs department relies on contract-based secretaries appointed post-retirement.
Unusual Kirtan Protest in Ahmedabad
In another event, an unusual "kirtan protest" took place at the Iskcon temple in Bhadaj, Ahmedabad. The gathering, marked by prayers and kirtan, expressed solidarity with Hindu devotees in Bangladesh. Protesters demanded the right to freely practice and propagate "Sanatana Dharma" in Bangladesh, urging its government to ensure safety and freedom for Hindus facing persecution. The temple’s spokesperson emphasized the gathering’s aim to support devotees against religious fundamentalism, highlighting the need for religious freedom and security in the neighboring country.
