Unraveling the Mystery: How Congress Achieved Record Paddy Production Without Project Completion – A BRS Revelation
Tensions have flared between the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress Government over the credit for the record paddy production this Kharif season in Telangana. BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao dismissed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s claims that Congress is responsible for the agricultural feat, highlighting the lack of progress on irrigation projects and support schemes since last December. Harish Rao criticized the Congress for failing to implement the ₹2 lakh crop loan waiver fully or provide the promised ₹15,000 per acre under Rythu Bharosa for the Kharif and Rabi seasons. He also noted the absence of support for tenant farmers and farmworkers.
Harish Rao pointed out that paddy production soared from 68 lakh tonnes in 2014 to 1.68 crore tonnes in 2023 due to the BRS’s completion of key irrigation projects such as Kaleshwaram, which expanded the cultivation area from 1.31 crore acres in 2014-15 to 2.21 crore acres in 2023-24. The BRS also increased the ayacut under projects like Kalwakurthy and Bhima from 27,000 acres to 6.5 lakh acres. Addressing the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Rao questioned the Congress’s inaction in Mahabubnagar and challenged the CM to substantiate claims regarding former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s alleged land ownership.
