Arunachal’s Dera Natung Government College Sparks Excitement and Awareness During Inspiring Fit India Week Celebration
Arunachal’s Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) recently hosted the 6th Fit India Week in partnership with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at the college grounds, drawing over 400 participants, including students, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, faculty, staff, and media personnel. The event emphasized the significance of fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
The occasion was inaugurated by Tamme Phassang, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation, who served as the Chief Guest. Phassang highlighted the necessity of integrating fitness with environmental cleanliness, cautioning against overindulgence and stressing the importance of balanced living. He encouraged students to practice discipline and avoid detrimental habits like drug use to foster a “Fit Arunachal and Fit India.” The Mayor also led the Fitness Pledge, joined by national-level athletes, faculty, and students.
Guest of Honour Fr. (Dr.) Jose George SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, underscored the essential role of discipline in achieving success in all life areas.
DNGC Principal Dr. M.Q. Khan outlined the objectives of Fit India Week, noting its role in raising awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. He linked modern health issues like obesity to sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, and a lack of physical activity. Dr. Khan stressed that fitness encompasses not just exercise, but also balanced nutrition and the avoidance of addictions such as drugs, alcohol, smoking, and excessive social media.
The program featured various sports competitions: football, volleyball, and tug-of-war, with categories for both men and women. Key results included NCC winning the Men’s Football and Women’s Volleyball, while NSS claimed victory in Women’s Football and Men’s Tug of War.
Satrajit Kachari, Assistant Director and Chief Operating Officer of SAI, commended DNGC’s consistent commitment to promoting fitness. Coordinators Mr. Botem Moyong and Mr. L.R. Singh ensured the event’s success and impact.
