Urgent Breakthrough: MCD’s Decisive Action to Combat New Delhi’s Air Pollution Crisis
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is intensifying its campaigns to tackle air pollution in the national capital, New Delhi. As part of this initiative, MCD has deployed an extensive network of 372 monitoring teams, comprising 1,295 officers, across its 12 zones to ensure compliance with Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-IV).
These teams are primarily tasked with controlling activities that contribute to air pollution, such as open garbage burning, illegal construction, unauthorized waste dumping, and road dust management. Notably, in the Karol Bagh zone, decisive action has been taken against 117 violators, reflecting MCD’s commitment to stringent enforcement of these regulations.
For enhanced enforcement, the Karol Bagh zone alone has fielded 36 teams with 77 officers dedicated to addressing air quality issues. Meanwhile, Sahadara North and Central Zone are also implementing robust measures to combat pollution within their areas. The overarching directive from the MCD to all zonal officers is to strictly follow the updated guidelines issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), emphasizing the need for persistent vigilance and action in the fight against air pollution.
Overall, MCD’s proactive strategy highlights its dedication to improving air quality in New Delhi and ensuring a healthier environment for its residents. This concerted effort underlines the importance of effective governance and collaborative action in tackling environmental challenges faced by urban areas.
