Shocking Discovery in Maharashtra: Two Arrested with Rare Ambergris and Black Buck Horns | Heart-Pounding Pune News
Pune Division forest department officials arrested two individuals at a Bhilarewadi hotel in Haveli taluka for possession of ambergris and black buck horns. The accused, identified as Hemrao Sikandar Mehta from Balaji Nagar and Rutik Navnath Lekurwale from Thergaon, were apprehended following a tip-off. A team led by Assistant Conservator of Forest Mangesh Tathe and Range Forest Officer Suresh Warak conducted the operation.
Authorities recovered ambergris valued at Rs 75 lakh and two black buck horns worth Rs 25,000. Both items are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act. A court has remanded the accused to forest custody until December 2 for further investigation.
The forest department press release elaborates on ambergris, a rare waxy substance originating from sperm whales, contributing to its high market value. Ambergris is traditionally used in high-end perfumes for its musky scent.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to curb wildlife trafficking and illegal trade in rare animal products.
