Empowering Sikkim: Transformative Drug Abuse Awareness Program at STC SAI Namchi
Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) recently organized an impactful Awareness cum Educational Programme on Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse at STC SAI Namchi. The initiative was primarily aimed at educating the youth about the perils of substance abuse and encouraging them to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The event attracted the participation of distinguished personalities, including G.P. Sharma, the Joint Director of the Education Department, and Dr. Meesho Chhetri from the Health and Wellness Department. Other notable attendees were Dhauti Bhutia, a NYK representative; B.S. Malik, NYK APA; and Stephan Tawuthansanga, the STC-SAI Football Coach. Keynote speakers also included officials from the Health OST Department and Nikheal Chhetri, the State Spokesperson and Press Head of the Yes Foundation Sikkim.
Dhauti Bhutia commenced the event by stressing the severe consequences of drug addiction. Dr. Meesho Chhetri delivered a comprehensive talk on strategies to prevent substance abuse, while G.P. Sharma emphasized the crucial role of education in fighting addiction and highlighted the necessity of spreading awareness throughout the district.
In addition to addressing substance abuse, the program outlined NYK’s current and future initiatives aimed at engaging youth in community development projects, as presented by B.S. Malik. Participants were inspired by Stephan Tawuthansanga’s compelling anecdotes of athletes triumphing over adversities and praised NYK for its proactive efforts in this regard.
Overall, the event served as a significant platform for stakeholders to share insights and strategies on combating substance abuse while fostering a sense of community and resilience among the youth.
