Empowering Victory: Bold Action Against Fake Job Rackets with Urgent Advisories and Awareness Campaigns
As of October this year, the government has flagged a total of 3,094 illegal recruitment agents across India on the eMigrate portal, according to the Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh. In a statement to the Rajya Sabha, Singh highlighted the concern over unauthorized travel agents operating in Punjab who are illegally recruiting for overseas jobs in violation of The Emigration Act, 1983. The government, in collaboration with the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs, and State Police, is actively pursuing action against these agents. In recent efforts, 38 First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed against illegal recruitment agencies in Punjab.
To combat the threat of fraudulent recruitment practices, the Ministry has initiated a series of advisories through the eMigrate portal, social media, and other public channels, alerting citizens about the perils of fake job schemes and providing guidance on identifying and avoiding such scams. In addition to these advisories, the Ministry is conducting nationwide awareness campaigns focused on promoting safe and legal migration practices, with particular attention to regions like Punjab where the problem is more pronounced.
This move by the government underscores a robust commitment to protecting citizens from exploitation by unscrupulous recruiters and ensuring that overseas employment opportunities are accessed through legitimate and legal channels. The comprehensive strategy combining legal action and public awareness is aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal recruiting agents and ensuring that the rights and safety of aspiring overseas workers are safeguarded.
