Unveiling the Majesty: Meet the Inspiring Field Director Transforming Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve has become a fortress against poaching, thanks to proactive measures by the Assam government, reports Field Director Sonali Ghosh. The government has made combatting poaching a high priority, particularly in Kaziranga and other regions with rhinoceros populations, employing a collaborative strategy with police intelligence and forest departments. This effective partnership led to a historic achievement—a zero rhino poaching year in 2022.
Ghosh attributes this success to the focused management efforts that thwarted poaching attempts before they could take place. Additionally, she praised the state’s dedication to conservation, noting that over 2,500 personnel were recruited for frontline duties during 2022-23. She described the government’s approach as both “proactive and positive,” emphasizing its commitment to protecting wildlife.
