Shocking Arrest: Two Smugglers Detained at Vizag Airport for Rare Lizard Trafficking
Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended two individuals at Visakhapatnam Airport on Sunday night, November 24, 2024, for allegedly attempting to smuggle six Eastern Blue Tongue Lizards, a rare species native to Australia. Acting on reliable intelligence, DRI agents intercepted the passengers arriving from Thailand. Upon inspection, the protected lizards were discovered in their luggage. Esteemed Vizag snake catcher, R. Kiran Kumar, was called to safely handle and secure the animals. The accused were subsequently arrested and remanded to Visakhapatnam Prison. The lizards were sent back to Thailand via a separate flight from Vizag on Tuesday evening, November 26. Further information is yet to be disclosed.
