Revolutionary Leap: Mizoram Government’s Bold Move to Empower Citizens with Prepaid Smart Meters
The Mizoram government is set to roll out prepaid smart meters, aligning its initiatives with the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). According to official sources, on November 21, the state’s power and electricity department entered into an agreement with the Advance Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) for this implementation.
The smart metering project is a crucial component of the RDSS, which aims to bolster electricity distribution throughout India. To support this initiative, Mizoram has secured over Rs 170 crore in funding from the Centre for the deployment of these advanced metering systems. The project targets the installation of prepaid smart meters for 2,89,383 consumers across the state.
The timeline for installation spans 27 months, commencing from the issuance of the Letter of Award on October 14. Following this, the project will undergo operation and maintenance for an additional 93 months. This strategic move is anticipated to enhance billing efficiency and energy usage monitoring, aligning Mizoram with national efforts to modernize electricity distribution infrastructure.
The introduction of these smart meters is expected to drive improvements in energy management, providing consumers with greater control over their electricity consumption and fostering a more efficient distribution network. As the project unfolds, it represents a significant stride towards a more robust and reliable power distribution framework in Mizoram, contributing to the overarching goals of the RDSS across the nation.
