Major Shake-Up: Resignation of Key Police Officer in Restive Jiribam, Manipur Accepted
Manipur police have officially accepted the resignation of Sagapam Ibotombi Singh, the officer in charge of the Jiribam police station, following an official order. Singh submitted his resignation on November 15, a day after being transferred from his position at Jiribam to the Manipur Police Training Academy in Imphal East district. He cited personal and family challenges as the primary reasons for his decision to leave the service.
An order signed by Directive General of Police Rajiv Singh confirmed the acceptance of Singh’s resignation, allowing him to step down immediately. The order, issued on November 23, was publicized on Monday.
The resignation comes amid heightened tensions in Jiribam, where a recent incident involving the abduction and killing of three women and three children on November 11 triggered violent protests. The victims were reportedly targeted by suspected Hmar-Kuki-Zo militants.
This event has led to significant unrest, prompting the Manipur government to relieve the Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) from duty after the incident, and an inquiry panel has been formed to investigate the matter further.
Singh’s departure adds another layer of complexity to an already volatile situation, raising questions about the handling and response to ongoing unrest in the region.
