Tragic Navigation Error: Devastating Bridge Plunge Claims 3 Lives, Sparks Outrage
A tragic accident occurred in Badaun district, resulting in the deaths of three individuals after their car plunged into the Ramganga River from an incomplete bridge on Sunday. The incident took place around 10:00 am on the Khalpur-Dataganj road as the victims traveled from Bareilly to Dataganj. Police reports indicate the driver was using GPS, which directed them onto the damaged bridge. This section collapsed into the river earlier this year due to flooding and had not been updated in GPS data.
Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam highlighted the lack of safety barriers or warning signs on the under-construction bridge as a contributing factor. The car, reportedly moving at high speed, couldn’t stop in time and fell 25 feet into the river, resulting in the instant death of all three passengers, identified as Kaushal, Vivek, and Amit, who were returning from a wedding.
Police teams from Faridpur, Bareilly, and Dataganj swiftly arrived at the scene to recover the vehicle and the bodies, which were subsequently sent for post-mortem. The mishap sparked widespread debate on social media about the reliability of GPS navigation. Users urged caution, stressing the risks of blindly following navigation systems. Comments ranged from calls to double-check routes to criticisms of navigation technology. One user lamented, “Never trust Google maps blindly,” while another questioned the mapping of the open road despite its condition: “I thought they have satellites to map routes and traffic!”
The incident underscores the critical need for accurate map data and proper safety measures at construction sites to prevent such tragedies. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with technological reliance and infrastructure neglect.
