Triumphant Victory: Assam CM’s Stunning Win in Samaguri By-Poll Ignites Hope
Guwahati, Nov 24: Following a notable triumph in the Samaguri by-election, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the BJP’s strategy to target minority-dominated regions in Assam, without indulging in appeasement. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Sarma reiterated the BJP’s policy of “appeasement to none; justice to all,” asserting that the party would appeal for votes based on its development agenda rather than offering special favors to religious minorities, unlike Congress.
The Chief Minister pointed out two factions within Assam’s minority groups: one advocating for equal government treatment and another seeking special consideration. He highlighted that the BJP has consistently delivered equal welfare benefits to minority-dominated areas, aligning with their motto, “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.” This approach, Sarma notes, is attracting those who support equality towards the BJP.
Looking towards the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, Sarma announced intensified campaigning in critical minority-dominated constituencies such as Lahorighat, South and North Karimganj, Samaguri, and Rupohi. Although he stopped short of predicting electoral victories, he expressed the party’s intent to present a significant challenge in these areas.
In addressing speculations about the All India United Democratic Front’s (AIUDF) impact on the elections, Sarma contended that AIUDF’s absence in Samaguri was advantageous for the BJP, as it prevented a split in anti-Congress votes. He argued that nationalists opposing appeasement could consolidate their support for the BJP, boosting the party’s prospects in minority-dominated regions.
This strategic focus on equitable treatment while engaging minority regions reflects BJP’s commitment to expanding its base in Assam’s diverse electoral landscape.
