Tragic Devastation: At Least 47 Lives Lost in Heart-Wrenching Israeli Airstrikes on Eastern Lebanon
In a surge of escalating hostilities, at least 47 individuals were confirmed dead and 22 injured due to Israeli airstrikes in the Baalbek-Hermel region of eastern Lebanon, as reported by Governor Bachir Khodr on Thursday. The strikes have devastated various towns and villages in the area, with rescue operations ongoing to locate missing persons trapped under debris from destroyed buildings.
According to Lebanese military sources, speaking anonymously to Xinhua, Israel conducted 48 airstrikes targeting southern and eastern Lebanon, hitting 18 border towns and villages with approximately 100 artillery shells. The Israeli military’s aggressive tactics come amidst worsening tensions with Hezbollah.
In retaliation, Hezbollah announced that it has launched missile strikes targeting central Israel. For the first time, their missiles hit the Hatzor airbase, located 150 kilometers from the Lebanese border near kibbutz Hatzor Ashdod, a key site housing squadrons of Israeli warplanes. Additionally, Hezbollah claimed to have fired volleys of missiles at Israeli military positions across southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
This outbreak of violence follows weeks of heightened Israeli military action beginning in September, with the situation further intensifying this October when Israel launched a ground operation northward into Lebanon. The ongoing conflict has raised international concerns about stability in the region and the potential for a broader confrontation.
As efforts continue to assess the full scope of damage and casualties, the international community watches closely, urging restraint and seeking a path to de-escalation amid the growing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
