Government Pledges Transformative SOP for VIP Car Protocol: Say Goodbye to Siren Abuse and Tinted Glass Misuse – A New Era of Fairness

Shillong, Nov 22: In response to growing public complaints about the state’s VIP culture, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced that the government will introduce a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) governing the use of sirens, tinted glasses, and flickering lights. This move aims to curb inconvenience to the public while addressing the need for security.

The Chief Minister stated, “Citizens have voiced significant concerns about VIP culture, and while security is important, it should not become a tool for misuse.” He emphasized that while safety and security concerns must be appropriately addressed, they should not evolve into behaviors that inconvenience the public.

To resolve these issues, the Chief Minister held discussions with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, the Chief Secretary, and the Director-General of Police. The police department was instructed to draft an SOP that clearly delineates who can use sirens, tinted windows, and flickering lights. This SOP will outline protocols for appropriate usage and will be strictly enforced once finalized.

The SOP will be presented to the Cabinet by next week, according to Sangma. The guidelines will focus on specifying who is permitted to use these devices, under what circumstances they can be employed, and the proper way to utilize them.

Sangma highlighted the importance of maintaining defined security protocols for individuals under varying security categories, such as Z plus, Z, and Y, ensuring these measures are not compromised. He acknowledged the challenge lies in balancing security needs with public convenience.

“We aim to reduce public inconvenience through this upcoming SOP, which will soon be reviewed by the Cabinet,” Sangma concluded, expressing hope that the new regulations would effectively address public grievances regarding VIP culture.
