Revolutionary Tenant Registration System Launched in Meghalaya: Ensure Peace of Mind Across 16 Localities
The Meghalaya government has launched a tenant registration system in 16 key areas of the state capital through the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016. Accessible via the new online portal at megrssa.nic.in, the initiative requires tenants and landlords to register their details, aiming to bolster public safety and security across the state.
The phased rollout begins in major localities such as Nongrim Hills, Pohkseh, Nongrah, and several others, with the system’s primary goal being the enhancement of security vetting for tenants to deter anti-social elements from seeking refuge in Meghalaya. An official release underscores the government’s commitment to sustaining peace and calm.
Landlords are now obligated to provide tenant information to both local police and authorities. A District Task Force will conduct quarterly reviews of these submissions, forwarding their evaluations to government bodies for ongoing monitoring and analysis.
The registration process encompasses several steps, including a self-declaration on a Rs 10 non-judicial stamp paper, submission of identity proof such as a voter ID, passport, or driving license, recent photographs of all occupants, and additional documentation for those moving between localities. This organized approach categorizes participants into six groups: tenants, landlords, sub-localities (Rangbah Dong), localities (Rangbah Shnong), police stations, and the District Task Force.
Residents have multiple registration avenues, including the official website, a mobile application, or Common Service Centers (CSCs) for a nominal fee of up to Rs 50. Those needing assistance can visit their nearest CSC or access the portal via various devices such as computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones.
This comprehensive registration approach underscores Meghalaya’s dedication to safety and order while providing residents with a streamlined process for compliance and contribution to community well-being.
