The eagerly anticipated 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, featuring eight international cricket teams, is set to be hosted by Pakistan. The tournament’s schedule is expected to be announced soon, as talks between the International Cricket Council (ICC), the host nation, and participating teams are currently underway. Reports indicate the schedule could be finalized in just a few days.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has consistently asserted that the entire tournament will occur within the country, making it the first ICC event hosted there since the 1996 ODI World Cup. However, ongoing back-channel negotiations suggest adopting a hybrid model might be necessary, as India is reportedly reluctant to visit Pakistan.
The presence of the Indian cricket team, often referred to as the “Men in Blue,” is seen as crucial due to their considerable fan base and the significant revenue they generate. Cricket administrators are keen to ensure India’s participation, pointing out financial repercussions should Pakistan withdraw from hosting duties. Consequently, the PCB is encouraged to avoid making contentious statements against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and consider a hybrid approach to accommodate all parties.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence during a recent press conference, stating all qualified teams are willing to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. He indicated a willingness to address any concerns from India, emphasizing there’s no legitimate reason for them to abstain from participating. Naqvi remains hopeful that a resolution will be reached, ensuring all teams, including India, will compete in this prestigious event.
