Guwahati: In a bid to foster environmental stewardship, Assam’s leading biodiversity conservation organization, Aaranyak, in collaboration with the Kamrup East Forest Division, inaugurated the ‘WeForNature’ outreach program on Sunday. The initiative took off with a “Birdwatching 101” event held at Garbhanga Reserve Forest, attracting 27 nature enthusiasts, including seasoned birdwatchers from across India, alongside forest officials.
‘WeForNature’ is designed to educate and mobilize communities, encouraging individuals to partake in sustainable activities through various media platforms and events. The initiative aims to cultivate an environmentally aware network within society. Udayan Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Organizing Secretary of Aaranyak, expressed that the program seeks to connect individuals with nature and instill a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation. As part of this initiative, Aaranyak plans to host a range of events including nature-watching, photography, eco-talks, and conservation discussions, in partnership with other institutions.
Through ‘WeForNature’, Aaranyak hopes to inspire collective efforts in promoting ecological conservation and human welfare, fostering a culture of sustainable living.
