Transformative Partnership: Tripura and Tata Technologies Revolutionize Industrial Training Institutes for a Thriving Future
The Tripura Cabinet has approved a significant collaboration with Tata Technologies Limited to upgrade 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state, announced Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. This partnership, set for a five-year term, aims to enhance ITI infrastructure and provide graduates with improved opportunities, including startup support and external placements. A formal agreement with Tata Technologies will be signed soon.
The initiative will introduce 11 new trades into the ITI curriculum. The project’s implementation is estimated at Rs 683.27 crores, with Tata Technologies funding 86% and the state government 14%. Additionally, the state will invest Rs 107.06 crores to further improve the infrastructure of these ITIs across a 13,000-square-foot area.
During a press conference at the Secretariat on November 16, Chowdhury also addressed inaccuracies in media reports about airfare on the Agartala-Kolkata route. He clarified that airfare is set by airline providers, with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regularly monitoring fare regulations. Most seats on each flight are priced below Rs 4,000, but last-minute bookings could cost more, with urgent travel spots priced higher. In contrast, early bookings range from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000.
The minister highlighted the UDAN scheme’s focus on economically weaker sections through enhanced connectivity at underserved and unserved airports. However, Agartala and Kolkata airports do not qualify under this scheme, limiting its benefits for Tripura’s air travelers. Tripura currently hosts around 16 daily flights, with a new Indigo-Airbus service expected to commence from Agartala’s MBB Airport shortly.
The event was attended by Industry and Commerce Director Bishwajit B, Transport Department Additional Secretary Subrata Chowdhury, and Joint Secretary Maitri Debnath, reflecting a collaborative effort to boost the state’s industrial and transportation infrastructure.
