Energized Campaigns Ignite Passion: Unveiling the Battle for Assembly Elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand
In Jharkhand, political figures from the NDA and I.N.D.I.A. alliances are actively campaigning across the state to secure votes for the upcoming second phase of assembly elections. Prominent BJP leader and Union Minister Amit Shah criticized the Hemant Soren government, accusing it of neglecting tribal welfare and using them merely as a vote bank. His remarks came during election meetings in Dumka, Deoghar, and Giridih, where he claimed the UPA government failed to allocate sufficient funds for tribal development.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, another senior BJP leader, echoed these sentiments in Jamtara, branding Soren’s promises as hollow and calling the election a chance to unseat his administration. Film star-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty, along with BJP leaders Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Champai Soren, have also rallied for NDA candidates.
Conversely, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP of neglecting Jharkhand, specifically highlighting inadequate cess from mines. At meetings in Jamtara and Khijri, he criticized the central government for its stepmotherly approach.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren responded by accusing the BJP of threatening his government and misusing central agencies during the election period. At a Dumka rally, he defended his administration against these allegations.
RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav accused the BJP of spreading hatred, while leaders from AJSU and left-wing parties conveyed their messages through rallies and roadshows. CPM’s Brinda Karat claimed both the BJP and JMM had failed the state’s poor, with the PESA law’s objectives unmet.
In Maharashtra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized the need to protect the Constitution and reservation at rallies in Amravati and Chandrapur districts. Advocating for a nationwide caste census, he reiterated the commitment of Congress and the Maha Vikas Aghadi to fulfill their promises if elected to power. The second phase of Jharkhand’s elections is set for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
