Unveiling the Mystical: Exciting Preparations for the Khamsel Ceremony at Tholung Monastery
Preparations Underway for Khamsel Ceremony at Tholung Monastery
MANGAN, Nov 16, 2024 (IPR): In anticipation of the triennial Khamsel ceremony at Tholung Monastery in Dzongu, significant inspections and preparations are being made to ensure the event proceeds smoothly from November 20 to 22. The Khamsel ceremony, renowned for its cultural and religious significance, features the display of sacred relics and artefacts typically kept under seal, drawing numerous devotees from the region. This necessitates robust infrastructure to accommodate the influx of visitors.
Forest Minister and Dzongu MLA, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, led a comprehensive inspection of Bay Lingzya under the Sakyong Pentong Gram Panchayat Unit. He was accompanied by local officials including Upadhakshya Sonam Kipa Bhutia and District Magistrate Anant Jain, among others. The inspection aimed to address several logistical issues, notably the inadequate road connectivity exacerbated by the region’s challenging topography and vulnerability to natural disasters.
Minister Lepcha emphasized the urgent need for sustainable development solutions to enhance accessibility and safety, especially during the monsoon seasons. In response, the District Magistrate instructed officials to expedite preparation efforts, offering full administrative support to overcome any planning challenges.
The team scrutinized the road conditions leading to Bay, with plans to implement effective traffic management, boost water supply, construct eco-friendly footpaths, and install public facilities. Additionally, they evaluated infrastructure projects connecting Lingdem to Tingvong and Laven to Lingzya, and reviewed landslide-affected areas and the Sonam Choda Lepcha Memorial School premises in Lingdong.
In a move applauded by the minister, a newly constructed temporary bailey bridge at Mantam was inaugurated, marking a timely project completion. The inspection reinforced the necessity for improved connectivity not only for cultural festivities like Khamsel but also to support the broader developmental and safety objectives of the Dzongu community.
