Shocking Accusation: Human Rights Watch Condemns Israel for Alleged War Crimes in Gaza Displacements

Human Rights Watch has accused Israeli authorities of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity through the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, as reported on Thursday. The organization claims this displacement is systematic and part of a state policy. Israel, however, dismissed these allegations as “completely false and detached from reality.” This report adds to a series of warnings from various aid groups and international bodies about the worsening humanitarian conditions in the besieged enclave.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry maintains that its operations target only Hamas’s military capabilities and not the civilian populace, accusing Hamas of using civilians as human shields by embedding its infrastructure within residential zones. Israel emphasizes its commitment to abiding by the law of armed conflict, which prohibits forced displacement unless required for civilian security or military necessity.

Hamas denies allegations of using civilians as shields or hiding armaments in civilian facilities, such as hospitals and schools. Last year, following a deadly attack by Hamas in southern Israel, Israel launched an offensive into the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli and Gaza health authorities, the conflict has resulted in significant casualties and widespread displacement.

Recent Israeli military actions have forced tens of thousands of Gazans from northern regions, aiming to dismantle Hamas forces alleged to regroup in Jabalia, Beit Lahiya, and Beit Hanoun. Human Rights Watch suggests that these displacements might become permanent, constituting “ethnic cleansing.” The Israeli military has refuted claims of creating permanent buffer zones, and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar assured that displaced Palestinians could return post-conflict.
