On Children’s Day, Assam’s Director General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, engaged in a heartfelt interaction with victims of child sexual abuse at the Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati. This important meeting, held on Thursday, aimed to directly hear from young survivors about their experiences and the challenges they face in their pursuit of recovery and justice.

In the company of Special Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, DGP Singh facilitated a platform for these victims to candidly share their stories. The discussion delved into critical issues such as their encounters with law enforcement, the obstacles faced during legal proceedings, and the toll on their education and mental health. DGP Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining open and regular dialogues with children to better understand their perspectives, reinforcing Assam Police’s commitment to making systemic improvements responsive to their concerns.

This meeting is part of a broader initiative during Assam Police’s ongoing Child Rights Week, commemorating Children’s Day on November 14 through to World Children’s Day on November 20. Harmeet Singh, serving as the Convener of the Assam Police Sishu Mitra Programme, highlighted the significance of incorporating children’s feedback into the justice system.
