Unlocking Success: Empowering Ordinary People with Technology for a Thriving Make in India Initiative
At the Atal Tinkering Science Expo – 2024, held at Sri Kanna Matriculation School in Mudukulathur, eminent scientist J. Daniel Chellappa emphasized the potential success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative by leveraging technology for the masses. Speaking on Children’s Day, Chellappa encouraged students to think boldly and aim high, echoing the inspiring words of late President APJ Abdul Kalam. The expo saw the participation of 400 students from various district schools, showcasing models on topics such as recent moon and solar missions, water conservation, and robotics. Among the innovative projects, a ‘sugar’ rocket powered by potassium nitrate and glucose, presented by Vineethkumar, a plus-one student, received particular commendation from Chellappa and visitors.
Addressing student inquiries about alternative energy sources, Chellappa revealed ongoing research at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) on generating electricity from soil, a pursuit envisioned by President Kalam towards making India a global leader in technology. The event also witnessed the presence of District Education Officer Ravi, and members of the Tamil Nadu Science Forum, Navaneethakrishnan and Durai Pandian, who commended the students’ efforts. School Chairman Gandhi Rasu and Principal Leema Shalin facilitated the event, leaving an indelible impression of innovation and inspiration on attendees.
