Coimbatore City Police Crackdown: Unyielding War on Dangerous Prescription Drug Peddling
The Coimbatore City Police are intensifying their crackdown on the illicit trade of prescription drugs. Under the leadership of City Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan, special teams are targeting individuals involved at all levels of this illegal network, from peddlers to suppliers. Recent investigations have been fruitful, leading to significant seizures of prescription drugs and the arrest of suppliers. In one notable case, it was discovered that drugs were being couriered from other states to Coimbatore. As part of their probe, the police have contacted the managing directors of two online trading platforms implicated in the drug distribution, though they have yet to respond. Since October 2024, the police have apprehended 31 individuals linked to the sale of prescription drugs and ganja, seizing over 29,562 tablets valued at approximately ₹88.68 lakh, along with 3.4 kg of ganja, 21 mobile phones, a laptop, 12 two-wheelers, and ₹98,000 in cash. This robust operation underscores the city’s firm stance against drug abuse and trafficking. Published on November 11, 2024, at 10:50 pm IST.
