Thrilling Showdown: Rangdajied United Gears Up for Epic Quarterfinal Battle Against Shillong Lajong in Meghalaya State League
The Meghalaya State League (MSL) 2024 has unveiled the eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals, igniting excitement in the football community. Organized by the Meghalaya Football Association and supported by the state government, the tournament’s spotlight is on the showdown between defending champions Rangdajied United and 2019 champions Shillong Lajong in the much-anticipated third quarterfinal. Adding to the suspense is the Jaintia Hills derby featuring Sutnga from East Jaintia against Ladthadlaboh from West Jaintia in the second quarterfinal. Meanwhile, the opening quarterfinal will feature the match-up between Chipakkore and Rymbai Skhenshynriah. The fourth quarterfinal presents Mawlai’s chance for redemption against Khliehmawlieh, who previously thwarted Mawlai in the 2023 semifinals but later succumbed to Rangdajied in the final.
The tournament committee has yet to announce the dates and venues for these exciting matches. In a strategic move, the MSL paused post-group stage, providing the state team ample preparation time for the upcoming National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy 2024-25.
The group stage concluded with Sutnga triumphing in Group B at Mawkyrwat, despite a three-way tie at six points with Khliehmawlieh and Mawten. Sutnga emerged victorious through superior goal difference, while Khliehmawlieh advanced as one of the two top second-placed teams across all groups. Rymbai Skhenshynriah excelled with the most points (7), while Khliehmawlieh edged out Lumsohkhlur based on goals scored.
